Wednesday, December 9, 2009 by Kate Rance
LightBound, an Indiana Internet Access Service Provider offers high speed Internet unlike what most other Internet service providers can offer. LightBound peers directly with the top Internet providers in the country in order to provide a robust and redundant network with low latency.
I spoke with a customer today that is struggling with the cost of bandwidth and trying to weigh the options between a more cost-effective option versus the more costly option with higher speed. In their daily business they upload large graphic files and need to have a robust network in order to guarantee Internet access at all times, with a high upload speed. After reviewing their options they decided upon LightBound's Internet access service so that they can insure their business is constantly online and running.
LightBound also offers business continuity, WAN configuration, and VoIP services over their high-speed network.

LightBound rolls out its SAN

Thursday, November 19, 2009 by Kate Rance

LightBound, an Indiana managed server host, has expanded its service offereings to include virtual servers, backups, and storgae via its new SAN.
A storage area network (SAN) is an architecture to attach remote computer storage devices (such as disk arrays, tape libraries, and optical jukeboxes) to servers in such a way that the devices appear as locally attached to the operating system. Although the cost and complexity of SANs are dropping, they are still uncommon outside larger enterprises. A System Area Network (SAN) is a high-performance, connection-oriented network that can link a cluster of computers.
LightBound can use this new technology to better serve its customers using a wide variety of data recovery, disaster recovery, business continuity, and sever collocation needs

LightBound's Internet compared to other ISPs

Tuesday, November 10, 2009 by Kate Rance
I was speaking with a customer today reagrding our internet compared to other internet providers in Indiana. LightBound maintains a physical presence in two network access points located in Chicago, Illinois and Ashburn, Virginia, providing diversity, redundancy, and "always on" availability for our customers. LightBound interconnects with other tier one providers such as AT&T, Level3, and UUNet with gigabit connections which gives us an aggregate transport capacity in excess of 4Gb/s back to our datacenter in Indianapolis. In addition, we maintain private peering connections both locally and in Chicago and Ashburn. We are interconnected with the Equinix "packet exchange peering fabric" in both network access points. This allows us to directly peer with hundreds of popular destination networks such as Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Facebook, the GigaPOP education network, as well as many local carriers.
So, not all internet providers are the same. LightBound may not be the cheapest option, but it is the highest quality in Indiana.

Friday, October 30, 2009 by Kate Rance
I met with a prospective client this week who was interested in colocation at our data center. His current povider is also his IP address provider. Unfitunately he has hard-coded his IP address with his customers VPN and is unable to change them. We offered a solution of housing his colocation servers in our data center and simply connecting to his existing carrier in our telcommuncations room. With this option he is able to keep his current IP addresses and lower is colocation costs.

LightBound offers top of the line WAN consolidation

Thursday, October 1, 2009 by Kate Rance

LightBound, Indiana's Internet Service Provider, offers WAN consolidation within a customers network, or by utilizing the LightBound data center.
LightBound also offer WAN Optimization products that help avoid packet delivery issues common in shared WAN environments, like MPLS and Internet VPNs. The optimization also eliminates the transfer of redundant data across the WAN by sending references instead of the actual data. The compression relies on data patterns that can be represented more efficiently and are best suited for point to point leased lines, which LightBound can provide.

LightBound offers SIP

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 by Kate Rance

LightBound, an Indiana VoIP sevice provider, offers Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). SIP is a widely used signaling protocol. It is used in voice and video calls over Internet Protocol (IP) by using the TCP/IP based Application Layer protocol.
LightBound can supply its Asterisk-based phone customers with SIP directly. If a customer does not have an Asterisk based server, a VoIP gateway would be required to translate the SIP line to the existing phone system.
As SIP is becoming more widely used its benfits include: reduced equipment costs, using a text-based protocol that allows for direct inspection by administrators, and the User-Agent field is sent in request messages, which means that the receiving SIP server can see this information; which can be useful in diagnosing SIP compatibility problems.
