Featuring Howard Bates, Chairman of Elevate Ventures

Howard Bates is the Chairman of Elevate's Board and also serves an interim Entrepreneur-in-residence role with a particular expertise in the defense, aerospace and information technology industries. Mr. Bates is the former CEO of HaverstickGovernment Solutions ("Haverstick"). As a founding partner of Haverstick, Mr. Bates launched the company in the basement of his home in 1994 with only $20,000 of capital. Later, the company moved to its first office located in Indianapolis on Haverstick Road, which provided the company its namesake.

Mr. Bates provided leadership and guidance to ensure Haverstick's mission of providing innovative and dependablegovernment outsourcing, technology services, learning solutions, and business consulting are fulfilled. Mr. Bates oversaw both Haverstick's public sector and commercial businesses. At the beginning of 2002, his role was expanded to include organization, technical, and strategic review of acquisition candidates.

From 1980 to 1994, Mr. Bates held sales, marketing management, and consulting services positions in both the federal and commercial industry segments at Digital Equipment Corporation. His career includes 10 years working directly with Air Force clients at Wright-Patterson and Navy clients in various locations. Before launching Haverstick, Howard Bates served as President of Kratos Defense and Security Solutions a publicly traded company.

Mr. Bates is a member of the Air Force Association, Northern Virginia Technology Council, AFCEA and Haverstick's Board ofDirectors. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, he earned a BA from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and an MBA inmanagement information systems from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
